The Yiddish Policeman’s Union

A conceptual project for a film or TV series based on Michael Chabon’s novel, The Yiddish Policeman’s Union.

The Yiddish Policeman’s Union takes place in an alternate timeline where a portion of land around Sitka, Alaska was provided as a refuge for Jewish people fleeing the Holocaust during WWII and the collapse of Israel in 1948. The land is to revert to Alaskan control after 60 years. On the eve of the reversal, Meyer Landsman, a detective, tries to solve the murder of a former chess prodigy, Mendel Shpilman, and a plot that involves the dead man and the lost Jewish state.

I chose to design Mendel’s room at the Hotel Zamenhof and the lobby of the hotel.
